Make a Difference in the Lives of Afghan Families

| News

As you may be aware, families and individuals have been forced to flee from their homes and country in Afghanistan and are now housed at military bases as they prepare to enter the United States for refuge. Soon New Hampshire and Massachusetts will be welcoming these families and individuals, and Bedford Presbyterian Church is poised to assist with this effort and is looking for your help.

We need people to serve on a Co-Sponsor Team to provide hospitality and connections for Afghan families as they resettle in the Bedford/Manchester area. The team will spend time with our new neighbors providing help with any of the following:

  • secure residence for an arriving refugee individual or family
  • provide rental assistance
  • collect furnishing and household items
  • collect seasonal clothing and hygiene supplies
  • purchase groceries for initial arrival
  • greet refugees at the airport when they arrive
  • prepare welcome meals for refugees immediately upon arrival
  • accompany family members to medical appointments and advocate for healthcare needs
  • help with English speaking skills
  • provide financial education and guidance
  • secure job development opportunities
  • provide transportation assistance
  • develop community guides and more

If you have gifts or talents you can share, we invite you to join our team by emailing the Mission Committee or reaching out to Larry Cowen at (603) 860-3056.

Helping these families and individuals is a tremendous opportunity to show our hospitality to our neighbors and is a great way to live into the Matthew 25 Initiative of the PCUSA.
