Bedford Presbyterian Church recently hosted a free seven-part education series titled “Financial TRIAGE" which invites viewers to reassess their post-pandemic financial priorities. Each segment of the series is now available online via BPC’s YouTube channel, and on Bedford Community Television Channel 16.
TRIAGE is an acronym for Taxes, Retirement, Investments, Asset Protection, Generosity, Estate Planning. You can watch any or all sessions, no matter where you are on your financial or spiritual journey. According to Forbes magazine, “Money and possessions are the second most referenced topic in the Bible – money is mentioned more than 800 times.”
The series, led by Jennifer Climo, CPA, CFP®, MSFP, provides in-depth information and knowledge on the following financial topics:
Overview. Values; goals; net worth; finance tracking software; debt; how to know when you have “enough”; expense problems vs. income problems; resources.
Taxes. Tax consequences of every financial decision; minimizing lifetime income taxes; the Medicare premium tax based on income; Roth vs. regular 401(k) contributions; HSAs; how to maximize itemized deductions; deductions for those who are self-employed.
September 28: Retirement. The FIRE movement; Social Security claiming options; Medicare plans; annuities; withdrawal strategies; how to minimize your risk of outliving your assets; magic dates.
October 5: Investments. Risk tolerance; types of investments; Bitcoin; inflation; asset diversification; tax diversification; rebalancing; historical rates of return; fees.
October 12: Asset Protection. Emergency funds; life insurance; disability insurance; umbrella insurance; long-term-care insurance.
October 19: Generosity. The generous act of tithing; the power of the tax-busting IRA beneficiary designation; donor-advised funds; qualified charitable distributions; appreciated stock; why NOT to use a bequest.
October 26: Estate Planning. Durable powers of attorney; health care powers of attorney; revocable trusts; why you DON’T want anything to pass through your will; prenups; divorce; probate; special needs trusts; buy/sell agreements for your business.
