There is this old Southern expression where I grew up.  If someone is getting ready to do a certain thing, they will often say that they are “fixin’” to do that certain thing.

For example, in the morning, you might hear a parent say to their child, “It’s time to put your shoes on,” to which the child might respond, “I’m fixin’ to!”  Or, imagine that someone has been given a task and then asked if they have completed said task.  If they haven’t even started the task, they might say, “I’m fixin’ to start.”

In recent days, after the celebration of Easter, we are in the home stretch of preparing for our 275th Anniversary on May 19.  And, in my mind, there is still a LOT to do. . . maybe too much!  Some of the tasks are being covered very well, but there always seems to be something cropping up that needs to be done and, when I discover one of these things, I’ll put it on my to-do list and then set about to starting it.  I will admit, there are times when I feel like I’m actually getting ready and other times when I feel like I’m “fixin’” to get ready.

Here’s what I’m excited to get ready and am fixin’ to get ready. . .

1.  We are planning a big fundraiser for our “Bright Hope for Tomorrow Campaign.”  A generous donor has told the BPC Youth Group that they will match up to $10,000 if the Youth Group can raise that amount.  So, mark your calendars for Saturday evening, May 4, and be prepared to help our Youth Group reach their goal.

2.  We have an achievable goal of $275,000 for our “Bright Hope for Tomorrow Energy Sustainability Campaign.”  As of today, we have $61,250 committed from some of our church leadership, with more commitments coming in every day.  We invite everyone to return your commitment cards to the church by Sunday, May 12, so that we can announce the results of our campaign as part of our celebration on May 19.

3.  May 19 is the big day – a spirit-stirring Pentecost Sunday celebration of our 275 years with a big photograph and lunch after the service.  Last year on Pentecost, we invited you to mark your calendars.  Well, the day is quickly approaching!

I hope that you are as excited as I am and that you’re getting ready (or, at the very least “fixin’ to get ready”).  😉

See you in church!

Grace and Peace,

John
