I hope you have had a wonderful week! With the April school break and a brief trip to Moultonborough for a Presbytery retreat, my week has been full and a little different in terms of the weekly rhythm and routine.
At the Presbytery retreat, I spent some time with other pastors, reflecting on our “core values.” How do our “core values” serve as a foundation for what and who we are as pastors (and people), AND how can we reconnect with our “core values” when we need to?
It was good to think about this kind of stuff, AND it reminded me of last week’s Weekly Word article about “Words to Live By.”
At the end of last week’s Weekly Word, I asked a question and gave an invitation: When the rubber meets the road and the cards are down, and you are called upon to rely upon the principles that guide you, what are your words to live by? If you have a “life verse” that shapes your life or a “heart verse” that you carry in your heart from the Bible, I would love to hear what it is.
I would like to do a 2025 Summer Sermon Series called “Words to Live By” and am taking requests. . . I would love to know your life or heart verses—your favorite life and faith-shaping passages of scripture. I feel that it would be interesting to get a fuller picture of the core scriptural values that shape the lives and faith of our congregation.
So, during May, I will be receiving requests for your favorite life/heart verses of scripture, and I look forward to exploring some of these during the summertime. Feel free to e-mail me your scripture passages or give/send a request on paper. I don’t know if I’ll get to all the requests by the end of summer, but I’d like to try to cover as many of them as possible.
