First, some sad news. . .

I first met Ralph Dieter on the first Sunday that I came to Bedford Presbyterian Church. When he found out that I had been involved in Scouts as a youth, he knew that we had a lot we could talk about. Ralph loved to talk. He was the longest-serving adult leader in BPC’s Troop 414, going back decades. He was here most Thursday nights for Scout meetings and was here every Sunday for church, sitting next to his wife, Alberta. Ralph and Alberta – who met at a church function in Erie, Pennsylvania – were married for 70 years! When he met Alberta, Ralph had recently returned from Korea with skills in electronics and radio – skill that led to a long career. Sadly, several years ago, Ralph suffered a stroke that severely limited his amazing mind and body, but there were still parts of his wonderful personality that could be seen.

Earlier this week, Ralph was having trouble breathing and went to the hospital. Our Clerk of Session, Fran Bader, and I were able to go and have prayer with Ralph, Alberta, and their son David. We knew that his time with us was short. That night, after a lifetime of service to others and decades of faithful membership in our congregation, Ralph Dieter, has been welcomed into God’s loving embrace.

A Service of Witness to the Resurrection for Ralph will be planned in the coming weeks and we will notify you when it will take place.

Ralph was a longtime supporter of young people and sought to promote their growth in faith, knowledge, and life.

And next, some fun news and an invitation. . .

This coming Sunday, March 22, our Youth Group will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner in support of the “Supplies for Success” program. Over the past several years, the youth of our church – along with local organizations like the Bedford Lions and Rotary Clubs – have been collecting funds that have been used to support several local elementary schools. Presbyterians have always been passionate about education and helping children grow in knowledge. Our history in the United States has been closely linked to education and we are proud to support our local schools.

Join us at 5 PM for a meal and some fun entertainment!
