Bedford Presbyterian Church is very thankful and proud to host the Bedford Community Food Pantry in our building.  The Pantry – which was started here and is a partnership between several local churches, the Bedford Lions Club, and other community organizations – serves upwards of fifty households each week, primarily residents of Bedford.

Over the past five years or so, Jason and Kat Piracini have been volunteering at the Pantry.  They are not residents of Bedford but became aware of the Pantry when a family member received some food assistance from the Pantry.  Jason and Kat started sticking around to help and, in the past two years, have become the volunteer managers of the Pantry – a role that Jason and Kat have taken on because they love it.  Quite simply, they love helping people.

Jason, an Army veteran and housepainter, has become a fixture at the Pantry.  His “If Walls Could Talk” work truck is often seen parked right outside and his friendliness and dedication to the cause of helping others has become one reason why the clients of the Pantry and other volunteers feel so welcome here.

In late October, Jason was hit with a debilitating infection that has impacted a valve in his heart.  Because of the medical complications surrounding Jason’s diagnosis, he has been moved to a hospital in the Boston area, where the infection can be treated, along with the heart issue.

In the past month, many people who know Jason have asked me how he is doing and if there is anything that can be done to help him while he is recovering and out of work.  A few weeks ago, some of the children of our church sent him some “Get Well” cards, which Jason received with grateful tears in his eyes.

If you would like to send a “Get Well” card or note to Jason, feel free to drop it by the church office.

If you are interested in helping in other ways, please contact our Administrative Assistant, Michelle Jones, directly at mjones@bedfordpresbyterian.org or 603-472-5841.

As Presbyterians, we believe that there is nothing good that can happen in the world without God inspiring that good thing through the Holy Spirit.  This week, I am thankful for all of you and your hospitality and generosity.  I am thankful for the Bedford Community Food Pantry and its ministry to our neighbors.  I am thankful for Jason and Kat – and all of the Pantry volunteers who serve our neighbors.  And I am thankful to God that the good work of the Holy Spirit can be seen and known in and through God’s people.

Grace and Peace,

John
