Staying active and maintaining mobility can be a challenge for some older adults,
but a new chair yoga program at Bedford Presbyterian Church aims to provide
a safe and effective solution.

This 40-minute class will be led by certified instructor Dalayne Villeneuve, from Mindfully Me Yoga, who specializes in adaptive fitness for older adults. Each session will incorporate seated and standing postures, breathing exercises, and final relaxation.

Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. A sturdy, armless chair will be provided.

There is no fee for this program but a basket for donations will be available to help offset costs.

Registration is required. Call Michelle at 603-472-5841.

Some Benefits of Chair Yoga for Seniors

  • Improved Strength and Balance: The measured movements and strengthening poses help
to build muscle and enhance coordination, which is crucial for reducing the risk of falls.
  • Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion: Gentle stretches help to lengthen muscles,
lubricate joints, and improve flexibility, making everyday activities like gardening or carrying
    groceries easier.
  • Reduced Pain and Stress: Yoga can help manage chronic pain from conditions like
osteoarthritis and induces a relaxation response, which helps the body better respond to stress
    and anxiety.
  • Enhanced Mental Well-being: Beyond physical benefits, the practice helps sharpen the mind,
improves concentration, and offers social benefits, creating a supportive community network.
