The mark of a true professional is often how well they perform under difficult circumstances.
For many months, our own Barbara Flocco has been the epitome of professionalism. Many of you have probably not noticed that Barbara has been playing the piano and organ, conducting our Senior Choir and the handbell choir under some very difficult circumstances. She has been experiencing a lot of pain in her right shoulder which has caused a lack of mobility, so much so that there have been times when she has needed to use her left hand to pick up her right hand and place it on the keyboard. Barb has soldiered on and played through the pain with hardly a complaint. Barb’s shoulder, on the other hand has been persistently and painfully “complaining” all the while.
This coming week, Barb will undergo shoulder replacement surgery. We are prayerfully hopeful that all will go well and that she will be able to heal quickly and fully recover.
In order to make sure that Barb is able to take the time to go through the healing process, the Session is making arrangements for Barb to be on medical leave until December, and possibly all the way to January. We are partnering with BPC’s own Jill Pennington and Melinda Chen to cover for Barb while she is away.
So, in preparation for Barb’s surgery and over the next few months, we are asking for prayers for Barb and her shoulder, as well as for Barb’s husband James as he becomes her literal “right hand man.”
We are also praying for Jill and Melinda and the music ministry of our church, trusting in their gifts and skills to offer praise to God through the blessing of music.
We are also inviting you, during this time, to offer your own gifts of music – making a joyful noise in the pew or considering joining one of our music ensembles and participate in the musical life of our congregation in a deeper way. I promise that you’ll have fun.
This, Sunday, we will be saying a special prayer for Barb. We love her. We are so thankful for her. And we are hopeful that we will see (and hear!) her back at BPC soon.
See you in church!
Grace and Peace,
John
