This past Monday evening at the monthly Session Meeting, Elder Michael Chen shared some thoughts on the state of Bedford Presbyterian Church’s livestream, along with some hopes for the future.
First, Mike gave a little history – talking about the near-overnight way that BPC transitioned from in-person worship services to online worship services during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, and how, in the span of two weeks that Spring, with assistance from some very gifted and dedicated individuals, robust equipment was installed that could handle the task of live-streaming. He also detailed the way that 100% of our worship services, ever since, have been live-streamed (along with special services and memorial services). This is quite a feat – especially with a small group of volunteers running our system, week-in-week-out.
I am so thankful for their dedication, and I know I’m not the only one!
At present, the livestream is watched by around 25 households, live in the 10 o’clock hour on Sunday mornings and by around 75 households later in the week – reaching as many as 150 (or more) people. As Mike shared with us on Monday, we have a lot of untapped potential when it comes to how we can expand our audience and use video (from worship and at other times) to share the good news of God’s grace with the world.
To this end, the Session of BPC has approved the hiring of a part-time Livestream Technician to maintain and enhance our livestream ministry.
The Livestream Technician will manage the audio-visual technical aspects of the church’s online broadcasts to ensure a high-quality digital experience for online viewers that is congruent with the church’s mission, image, and message. Interested candidates should send an e-mail to personnel@bedfordpresbyterian.org or simply get in touch with me. A job description is posted on our website and you can find it HERE.
The Session and I are excited about the potential of this new position to build on the foundation that has been laid by our excellent volunteers over the past five years.
God gives us every gift and skill and tool to use in the building of God’s kingdom here on earth. Let’s use our live-streaming tools to make even more of a difference.
See you in church!
Grace and Peace,
John
