Summer Sermon Series
A few months ago, I was talking with someone about their life and faith, and as part of the conversation, I began to wonder what makes this person tick, in the sense of their personal theology and system of beliefs. Was there some passage of scripture, perhaps, that served as a sort of “life verse” or provided a defining principle that helped to guide their faith in God?
If you were to ask someone what makes them tick, theologically, you might just get any number of answers. When it comes to who God is for us, each of us is informed by how we were raised, and the things we’ve learned about God in church, and the books we’ve read, and the kinds of experiences we’ve had in life. There are those who will point to God’s mercy and grace or to God’s judgment. And, to back up what they believe, many people turn to the Bible. Some folks might highlight a verse from the Old Testament, or something from the Gospels, or some letter written by the Apostle Paul.
This summer, we will be highlighting a little bit of all-of-the-above – passages from throughout the Bible that have been requested and submitted by members of our congregation. The list of passages is not exhaustive, but it does paint a bit of a picture of who we are as a church, theologically and scripturally.
The list is not quite complete. We still have a few Sundays to flesh out, but here is the list as it stands today. . .
- June 15 – Psalm 46
- June 22 – Philippians 2:1-11 – The Reverend Dr. Scott DeBlock, preacher
- June 29 – Luke 18:9-14 – The Reverend Dr. Blair Moffet, preacher
